Tuesday night $15 pizza or pasta and a bottle of Peroni
The Paddo is a well know landmark in the Perth pub scene, boasting 141 ales it has certainly created a name for itself among the beer lovers of our city. The Paddo is the perfect venue for any sporting enthusiast. Famous for being one of Perth’s best sports bars, The Paddo has the ability to show up to 4 different live sports at any given time and for those punting devotees they even have a self service TAB.
Our visit this week was much more modest – we had come to try the famous Tuesday night special, only $15 for a pizza or pasta with a bottle of Peroni. Being a lover of all things Italian I was excited to see what the menu had to offer - a choice of 3 pizzas; margarita, BBQ chicken or pepperoni & cheese and a choice of two pastas; spaghetti carbonara or chilli sausage pasta.
When faced with two of my favourite Italian dinner options it’s never easy to choose, but I can never pass up the opportunity for a delicious serve of pasta, so I chose the chilli sausage, my dining partner chose the carbonara. I have to admit, I was quite sceptical when our dishes arrived within 15 minutes of ordering, both pasta’s arriving on large white plates, with no particular care taken with the presentation. The pasta for me was slightly overcooked, I prefer mine cooked al dente, and the sausage tasted like your typical store bought beef banger, however the dish did have a pleasant hint of chilli and just enough sauce without overpowering the dish. The carbonara was rich with cream, bacon and mushroom and definitely the better pick on this occasion. The servings were not large, but certainly enough to satisfy without being overfull. Overall I felt they were both dishes I could easily throw together at home.
Was it an award winning pasta? No. Was it value for money? Absolutely. You can’t beat dinner and a beverage for $15, and more importantly I didn’t have to do the dishes.
